Infrared heating

Our shala is fitted with infrared heating panels that provide even and comfortable warmth during yoga classes.

Infrared heating works slightly differently from traditional heating. Rather than primarily heating the air in the room, the panels emit thermal radiation that warms your body and the surfaces around you. It is similar to the way we feel the sun’s warmth, but without UV radiation.

Many people find this type of warmth pleasant during yoga. As the body warms up, blood circulation increases and the muscles may feel softer and more supple. This can make it easier to get into the poses and help your muscles and joints feel good, both during and after the class.

As the heat is largely transferred directly to the body and the surroundings, the air in the room does not need to be heated in the same way as with traditional heaters. This provides even heat without much air circulation or dust being stirred up.

Infrared heat is used in many different contexts, including saunas, heating mats and various forms of heat therapy. Research has also been carried out into how heat and infrared radiation affect, amongst other things, blood circulation, recovery and the perception of pain. The effect varies from person to person, and here the infrared heat is primarily intended to create a warm and comfortable environment for yoga.

For many people, the combination of yoga and infrared heat makes for an especially pleasant experience, particularly on days when the body feels a little stiff or cold.
